3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari
The 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari provides a comfortable introduction to mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park while allowing sufficient time to travel between Kigali and Rwanda’s volcanic northwest.
Instead of compressing the experience into a single day, this itinerary includes two nights near the national park. This creates a more relaxed journey and allows travellers to approach the gorilla trek well rested.
Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Meet your professional Kiguba Adventure Safaris guide in Kigali and begin travelling north towards Volcanoes National Park.
The road climbs through Rwanda’s famous hilly countryside, passing cultivated slopes, towns and rural communities. As you approach Musanze, the dramatic outlines of the Virunga volcanoes begin to dominate the horizon.
Arrive in the Volcanoes region and check into your lodge. Depending on your arrival time and final programme, enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring the surroundings or simply appreciating the mountain scenery.
Use the evening to prepare comfortable trekking boots, long trousers, rain protection and other equipment for the following morning.
Accommodation: Budget – selected budget accommodation in the Musanze/Volcanoes region or similar; Mid-range – selected mid-range lodge near Volcanoes National Park or similar; Luxury – Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel or similar.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake early for breakfast before transferring to the designated park briefing area. Complete registration and meet the professional ranger team responsible for your Rwanda gorilla trekking experience.
During the briefing, guides explain trekking procedures and the rules that protect both visitors and mountain gorillas. You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family before entering the forest.
The trek follows the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Conditions vary depending on weather and the location of the gorillas, and the walk may involve mud, thick vegetation and significant changes in elevation.
Trackers follow signs of gorilla movement until your assigned family is located. Once with the gorillas, follow all ranger instructions and observe them according to current park regulations.
You may watch a silverback resting nearby, females caring for their young or juveniles playing among the vegetation. Because the gorillas are wild, each encounter is naturally different.
After completing the trek, return to the starting point and transfer back to your lodge. Spend the remainder of the afternoon resting and enjoying the Virunga scenery.
Accommodation: Budget – selected budget accommodation in the Musanze/Volcanoes region or similar; Mid-range – selected mid-range lodge near Volcanoes National Park or similar; Luxury – Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel or similar.
Day 3: Volcanoes Region – Return to Kigali
Enjoy breakfast at your lodge and a relaxed morning in northern Rwanda before beginning the return journey towards Kigali.
Travel through Rwanda’s mountainous countryside, enjoying final views of the Virunga region and the densely cultivated hills surrounding Musanze.
Depending on your onward arrangements, your guide will transfer you to a hotel, Kigali International Airport or another agreed location in the city.
Your arrival in Kigali marks the end of the 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari with Kiguba Adventure Safaris.
