6 Days Uganda Gorillas Chimpanzees and Wildlife Safari

The 6 Days Uganda Gorillas Chimpanzees and Wildlife Safari combines three of western Uganda’s outstanding wildlife experiences within one carefully planned journey. The itinerary takes you beneath the tropical canopy of Kibale in search of chimpanzees, across the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally into the misty highlands of Bwindi for mountain gorilla trekking.

Day 1: Kampala/Entebbe – Transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, meet your professional safari guide and begin the journey west from Kampala or Entebbe towards Kibale National Park. The drive takes you through Uganda’s changing countryside, passing towns, farmland and rolling landscapes before reaching the greener environment surrounding the forest.

Arrive in the Kibale region later in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing and preparing for the following morning’s chimpanzee trek.

Accommodation: Budget – Kibale Forest Camp or similar; Mid-range – Turaco Treetops or similar; Luxury – Primate Lodge Kibale or similar.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, proceed to the designated briefing point for your Kibale chimpanzee trekking experience. Professional guides explain the forest regulations before leading you beneath the canopy in search of habituated chimpanzees.

The forest walk provides opportunities to appreciate Kibale’s rich vegetation and other primates while trackers listen for calls and search for signs of chimpanzee movement. Once the chimpanzees are located, observe their behaviour according to current park regulations.

After completing the trek, return for lunch before travelling south towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive later in the day and settle into your lodge overlooking or close to the park.

Accommodation: Budget – Pumba Safari Cottages or similar; Mid-range – Buffalo Safari Lodge or similar; Luxury – Mweya Safari Lodge or similar.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth Game Drive – Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Wake early and head into the savannah for a morning game drive. Search for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, warthogs and other animals while your guide explores productive wildlife areas. Lions and other predators may also be encountered depending on natural movement.

After lunch, transfer to the Kazinga Channel for an afternoon boat safari. Hippos, crocodiles and numerous waterbirds inhabit the channel, while elephants, buffaloes and antelopes may approach the shoreline.

Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Budget – Pumba Safari Cottages or similar; Mid-range – Buffalo Safari Lodge or similar; Luxury – Mweya Safari Lodge or similar.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, enjoy final wildlife viewing as you travel through the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park before continuing towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The journey reveals a gradual transition from open savannah to cultivated hills and densely forested highlands. Arrive at your lodge later in the afternoon and prepare for the following morning’s gorilla trek.

Accommodation: Budget – a selected budget Bwindi lodge or similar; Mid-range – a selected mid-range Bwindi lodge or similar; Luxury – a selected luxury forest lodge or similar, matched to the confirmed gorilla trekking sector.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated briefing point and meet the ranger team for your Bwindi gorilla trekking adventure. Following the briefing, enter the forest with professional guides and trackers.

The trek may involve steep slopes, dense vegetation and uneven forest trails as the team searches for your assigned habituated gorilla family. Once located, observe the gorillas according to current park regulations while they feed, rest and interact in their natural environment.

Return to your lodge after the trek and enjoy a relaxed final evening in the Bwindi highlands.
